54 nomadic families living in the Palnpur city of Banskantha have been allotted residential plots by the government. Amoungst these families there is a large number of young widows who have lost their husbands to alcohol addiction. 13 Bajaniya families have been allowed plots of which 10 families are headed by widowed women. These women hawk fruits in trains between Palanpur and Abu Road. The income from this helps them sustain their families.
Recently, we happen to meet these women during a visit planned to inquire how the families plan to construct their homes. The social welfare officer Shri. Prajapati was also part of the visit. it should be noted here that the government allocates Rs. 45,000 to the nomadic families staying in urban areas where as the amount doubles for those staying in rural areas. For these extremely marginalised families constructing a house is a mammoth task and for the ones in cities it becomes even more challenging. To even ask these women if they have enough savings to cover partial construction cost was irrelevant. They are the ones who have refused to remarry and accepted the challenge of sustaining their families with grace and dignity after losing their husbands to the addiction of alcohol. It is a responsibility they are honouring with great resilience.
Along with these 54 families another 40 families from Vadia will also be allotted plots soon. We require support from the society to help us construct abodes of love and care for these families and we are sure we will get all the necessary support……..

આ બહેનો એવી છે કે, જેમણે પોતાના પતિ દારૂના વ્યસનમાં મૃત્યુ પામ્યાં પછી ઘરની જવાબદારી સ્વીકારી છે..
બનાસકાંઠાના જીલ્લા મથક પાલનપુરમાં વસતા વિચરતા સમુદાયના ૫૪ પરિવારોને રાજ્ય સરકાર દ્વારા રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફળવાયા છે. જે પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફળવાયા છે એમાં નાની ઉંમરની વિધવા બહેનોની સંખ્યા ઘણી છે. બજાણીયા સમુદાયના ૧૩ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ આપ્યાં એમાં લગભગ ૧૦ બહેનો વિધવા છે. આ પરિવારની બહેનો ટોપલામાં ફ્રુટ્સ લઈને પાલનપુરથી આબુ રોડ સુધી ટ્રેનમાં ફેરી કરે અને એમાંથી ઉભી થતી આવકમાંથી ઘર ચલાવે છે.
સરકાર શહેરમાં વસતા વિચરતા પરિવારોને ઘર બાંધવા રૂ.૪૫,૦૦૦ આપે છે (ગામડામાં રૂ.૭૦,૦૦૦ આપે) આટલી રકમથી શું થાય? આ બહેનો સાથે ઘર બાંધવાનું આયોજન કેવી રીતે કરશો એ બાબતે વાત કરવાં સમાજ કલ્યાણ અધિકારી શ્રી પ્રજાપતિ સાહેબ સાથે જવાનું થયું. બચત છે? એવો પ્રશ્ન એમની સ્થિતિ જોઇને પૂછવો કે કેમ એ પ્રશ્ન હતો.. આ બહેનો એવી છે કે, જેમણે પોતાના પતિ દારૂના વ્યસનમાં મૃત્યુ પામ્યાં પછી ઘરની જવાબદારીમાંથી ભાગવા કે બીજે લગ્ન કરવાનો વિચાર માંડીવાળી પોતાના પરિવારને સાચવવાની જવાબદારી સ્વીકારી છે.. અને આ જવાબદારીને તેઓ બખૂબીથી નિભાવી રહ્યા છે.
આ ૫૪ પરિવારોની સાથે વાડિયાગામના ૪૦ પરિવારોને પણ પ્લોટ ફળવાય એની તજવીજ થઇ રહી છે. આ પરિવારોની વહાલપની વસાહતના નિર્માણમાં સહભાગી બનવું જરૂરી લાગે છે અને એ માટે સમાજ પણ સહયોગ કરશે એવી શ્રદ્ધા રાખીએ છીએ..
